[EXA] QSFP+ Universal Transceiver 소개

[EXA] 40G QSFP+ 유니버셜 2km/150m 듀얼모드 광모듈

There are many challenges faced during data center or network upgrade. How to simplify network management and decrease the cost without affecting the transmission quality is always the hot topic. A lot of data centers and networks upgrading from 10G to 40G are also facing such challenges. Cost and deployment time are being increased because of the different cabling structures of 10G network and 40G network. In addition, upgrading to 10G to 40G network is also limited in transmission distance over multimode fibers. To solve these to problems, a universal transceiver is being invented by Arista, which is known as QSFP+ 40G universal transceiver.

Basic of QSFP-40G-UNIV Transceiver

The name of QSFP-40G-UNIV module tells its advantages. UNIV means universal, which is to say this module can be used in a variety of applications. This QSFP+ universal transceiver has a duplex LC port for dual-way transmission. It uses four different wavelengths (1270nm, 1290nm, 1310nm and 1330nm) for 40G dual-way optical transmission. What’s more, QSFP-40-UNIV can support optical transmission over both multimode and single-module fibers without adding any hardware or software. It can support 40G transmission up to 100m over OM3, 150m over OM4 and 500m over single-mode fiber. With these great features, this universal transceiver can simply the management and deploy cost of 40G migration easily and effectively. The following table shows QSFP-40G-UNIV basic parameter.

PHY Type Connector

QSFP-40G-UNIV Simplifies Cabling Structure

The existing 10G network uses two fibers for dual transmission. However, 40G network usually uses 12-fiber MTP based fiber cables for dual-way transmission over multimode fibers, which means, if you want to upgrade your network from 10G to 40G, more optical fibers should be added and the cabling structure should be changed. Generally, 40Gbase-SR4 QSFP+ modules with MTP port will be used for 10G to 40G migration over multimode fiber. However, this 40G QSFP+ UNIV module can support the same transmission distances as 40G QSFP+ SR4 module does. But as it uses two strands of fiber for dual-way transmission like most 10G network, the using of this universal module can keep the existing 10G network cabling structure when upgrade to 40G network.

QSFP-40G-UNIV Increases Cabling Flexibility

In optical network, optical signals are usually asked to be transmitted from multimode fibers to single-mode fibers. However, 40G optical transceiver, like 40G-LR4 QSFP+ and 40G-LR4L QSFP+, working over single-mode fibers usually transmits dual-way signals over two fibers via LC interfaces. It would be complex to convert the multimode signals into single-mode signals and the cabling structure should be changed again. Luckily, with this QSFP-40G-UNIV module, thing be easier, as it can support single-mode fiber optic transmission up 500 meters. In addition, it can be interoperated with 40G-LR4 QSFP+ and 40G-LR4L QSFP+ modules. The network cabling flexibility will be future increased. Technicians can design the 40G network more freely.

Conclusion

Universal QSFP+ transceiver QSFP-40G-UNIV can be used over both single-mode and multimode fibers. It can support dual-way transmission over two fibers via LC interfaces. QSFP-40G-UNIV provides a cost-effective and reliable solution for 40G migration.
